Shubham Destroys Umlazi
Dawnheights Cricket Club welcomed Umlazi Cricket Club on Sunday for both teams opening KZN Challenge League fixture. Umlazi won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision backfired as they lost their first wicket in the 1st over. Wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. With the introduction of Shubham Choudhary of Rajasthan, India and Raj Verma of Dehli, the scoring rate came down to a crawl. The lower order took the score to 142 from their allotted 46 overs with 9 wickets down. Dawnheights openers Shubham and Suveer took to the field and Shubham got Dawnheights off to the perfect start by lofting the first 2 balls straight over the bowlers head for maximums. Shubham stamped his authority over the bowlers with his big hitting and raced to his 50 in the 6th over. Shubham toned down his aggression as he lost 3 partners. Captain Comfort joined Shubham and they steadied the innings with their quick singles and occasional boundary. With the end near, this freed Shubham to reassert his dominance with some lusty blows and in the 25th over, he brought up his maiden Challenge League century in his first appearance in the KZN League appearance. The 107 not out coupled with his bowling figures of 10 overs, 15 runs, 3 maidens and 2 wickets, earned him a well deservered Man of the Match performance and Dawnheights a bonus point victory.
